進攻一方必須在內24秒出手投籃，但在球過中線以後在前場的發球後，必須在 14 內秒
出手投籃，否則違例。shot clock即是這種限時的計時器。在工作時限 (deadline，例
如：交報告、交學費、申請入學、報名考試等的截止日期)前完成工作，可以說 beat
the deadline。
